Add Tunnel
The Add Tunnel option allows you to quickly create tunnel boundaries based on common pre-defined shapes with user-defined parameters. To add a tunnel boundary:
- Select the Geometry workflow tab.
- Select Add Tunnel from the toolbar or the Boundaries menu.
- You will see the Tunnel Wizard dialog. Select the Tunnel Shape. You may choose from:
- Square Cavern
- Shoulder Cavern
- Curved Horseshoe
- Circular Horseshoe
- Horseshoe
- Three Curve
- Five Curve
- Enter the tunnel properties to define the particular shape you have selected. The preview at the right of the dialog will be updated as you enter parameters.
- To include a Top Heading boundary within the tunnel, select the Show Top Heading check box and enter the top heading elevation and invert depth.
- When all tunnel parameters have been entered select [OK] in the dialog. You will then be prompted to enter the center point of the tunnel. You can do this graphically with the mouse or by entering XY coordinates in the prompt line.
- After the center has been entered the tunnel will be added to the model.
Tunnel Boundary Type
When a tunnel boundary is added using the Add Tunnel option, it is important to note that the tunnel boundary is actually added as a STAGE boundary. A tunnel boundary in RS2 is NOT a distinct boundary type. The Add Tunnel option is simply a tool to facilitate the creation of tunnel geometry.
Editing a Tunnel Boundary
After a tunnel boundary has been added (as a stage boundary), the boundary behaves like any other boundary in RS2. You can edit the tunnel boundary using the boundary editing options. NOTE: the tunnel properties originally defined in the Tunnel Wizard dialog are NOT preserved. If you wish to modify the tunnel based on the original properties, you will have to delete the existing tunnel, and go back to the Tunnel Wizard dialog and add a new tunnel with new shape parameters.
