Edit Joint Network Assignment

The Edit Joint Network Assignment option allows you to toggle the assignment of an existing joint network, on or off, in any region of the model (i.e. assign an existing joint network to additional regions of a model, or remove a joint network from currently assigned regions).

To use this option:

  1. Select Edit Joint Network Assignment from the Joint Networks submenu of the Boundaries menu.
  2. Use the mouse to click on any joint boundary in a network. All boundaries in the network will be highlighted.
  3. Press Enter or right-click and select Done Selection. All regions of the model where the joint network is currently assigned, will be highlighted.
  4. Now simply click the mouse in any region to toggle the joint network assignment on or off in that region
    1. If the joint network is already assigned to a region, then clicking in the region will turn off the assignment
    2. If the joint network is not assigned to a region, then clicking in the region will turn on the assignment.
  5. Note that the prompt line indicates "shift = add" and "alt = subtract". This means the following:
    1. If you press and hold the Shift key, you can only toggle the assignment ON
    2. If you press and hold the Alt key, you can only toggle the assignment OFF.
  6. These shortcuts can be useful if you want to ensure that the assignment is only turned on or off in all selected regions. For example, if you have a model with multiple regions, and you are using a selection window to select multiple regions.

  7. When you are finished editing the network assignment, press Enter or right-click and select Done, and the new assignments will be applied.

NOTE: you cannot clear the assignment of a joint network from ALL regions of a model, with the Edit Joint Network Assignment option. At least one region must remain assigned, or you will see a warning message. If you want to completely remove the network from the model, then use the Delete Joint Network option to delete the network.

Right-Click Shortcut

Edit Joint Network Assignment can also be accessed using a right-click shortcut:

  1. Right-click the mouse on any joint boundary in a network.
  2. Select Edit Assignment from the popup menu.
  3. Follow steps 4-6 described above, to edit the assignments.
