Initial Water Condition

In the Define Material Properties dialog, Initial Water Condition allows you to select one of the following options:

  • Dry
  • Pore Water Pressure
  • Ru
  • Grid
  • Interpolated

The Initial Water Condition option is only available when the Groundwater Method is set to either Steady State Finite Element Analysis or Transient Finite Element Analysis in Project Settings.

Interpolated

This option is used to interpolate the initial pore water pressure within a material for a Steady State or Transient groundwater analysis. This is different from assigning a phreatic surface as the initial water condition since the interpolation surface will use the pore water pressure at the current stage to interpolate the remaining pore pressures within the material. Phreatic surfaces do not update their pore pressures unless they are staged.
