Automatic Liner Removal

The Automatic Liner Removal option allows you to specify whether or not liners are automatically removed from the model (i.e. uninstalled) if the material on both sides of the liner is excavated.

For example, if a liner has been applied to a stage boundary, and the material on both sides of the liner has been excavated, in most cases you would want the liner to be automatically removed from the model.

This is the default setting for the Automatic Liner Removal option. When the option is ON:

  • RS2 will automatically remove a liner from the model if the material on both sides of the liner is excavated.
  • You will not be able to add a liner to a boundary, if the material on both sides of the boundary is excavated.

However, liners in RS2 can represent many different types of support and installation sequencing. There are situations when you would want to define a liner which crosses an excavated space. This allows you to model support such as struts, for example, as shown in the following figure. Or you may wish to define a free-standing liner which is back-filled at a later stage.

To turn OFF Automatic Liner Removal, select the Automatic Liner Removal option from the Support menu, so that the check box does not appear beside the menu option. If this option is turned off, then you will be able to define liners which cross an excavated space, and the liners will NOT be automatically removed.

It is important to note the following:

  • If you turn OFF the Automatic Liner Removal option, and you WANT a liner to be uninstalled when the material on both sides is excavated, then you will have to manually uninstall the liner at the desired stage.
  • The Automatic Liner Removal option does NOT modify the current installation status of existing liners (i.e. turning the Automatic Liner Removal option ON or OFF will NOT automatically remove or install existing liners). It only has an effect on liner installation when you are assigning Liner or Excavation staging, or when you are initially adding a liner.

Use Legacy Automatic Liner Removal

When reading old models (version < 11.010) liners with incorrect install\stage information are reset to the valid stage. If you wish to maintain the liner staging settings for legacy models, you can select the Use Legacy Automatic Liner Removal option available in the Stress Analysis section of your Project Settings Button Project Settings.

Preferences

By default the Automatic Liner Removal option is always ON, since this is the most common use for this option. If you want Automatic Liner Removal to be OFF by default, then you can clear the corresponding check box in the Preferences dialog in the File menu.
