Select Poles
The Select Poles option allows you to graphically identify poles on a Pole Vector Plot by selecting them with the mouse and automatically highlighting the corresponding row(s) in the Pole Data Grid pane.
To use Select Poles:
- Select Selection > Select Poles
from the Stereonet 2D
ribbon. - As you move the cursor over the Stereonet, when the cursor is near a pole, it will be highlighted and "snap" to the exact location of the pole.
- If you LEFT-CLICK, the currently "snapped to" pole will become selected on the Vector Plot. When selected:
- A red dashed circle is placed around the selected pole
- The corresponding row(s) of the Pole Data Grid pane will be highlighted.
- To escape from the Select Poles option, toggle off the Selection > Select Poles
option in the Stereonet 2D ribbon. Alternatively, press the ESC key, or right-click and select Cancel.
The Pole Data Grid pane refers to the pane docked to the Stereonet 2D view at the bottom-left, and NOT the main Pole Data Grid view. If not already expanded, click the Pole Data Grid
tab and select the Pin button to keep the pane open. The pane can be tiled and resized within the Stereonet 2D view.
Selecting Poles on the Pole Data Grid Pane
It is useful to note that the Select Poles capability not only works from the Vector Plot to the Pole Data Grid, but ALSO from the Pole Data Grid to the Vector Plot. That is, if rows of the grid are selected (by clicking on the rows of the grid), the corresponding pole(s) on the Pole Plot will be highlighted, in the same manner as when using the Select Poles option described above (i.e., a red dashed circle around the selected poles). Experiment with this capability of Dips to see how it works.
