Units
Dips offers units in raw inputs, giving advanced users greater flexibility and precision by letting them work directly with underlying values. It also simplifies integration with other systems by avoiding assumptions or hidden conversions.
Within the Orientation Data dialog, required inputs and custom columns can be assigned with the appropriate units, which will later be converted to the equivalent Reporting Units.
To define units:
- Select Define Units button.
- The Define Units dialog appears, allowing you to specify the Data Type and Format for each Parameter.
- Click OK to set the units.
Data Type
The following Data Types are available:
- Text
- Unitless
- Ratio
- Length
- Area Volume
- Force
- Pressure
- Angle
Predefined Parameters (e.g., Distance column) have a set Data Type (i.e., Length) that cannot be changed by the user.
User-defined custom columns can be set to any Data Type.
Format
The Format is only applicable to Data Types that are not Text, Unitless, or Ratio. The Format allows users the set the units format for unit data types.
- Custom columns are unique by Column Name.
- Custom columns with the same Column Name must have the same Data Type.
- Custom columns with the same Column Name can have different Formats (e.g., Format Type = Length, and mixed Formats with m, cm, ft, etc.)
