Pole Vectors Overview
The primary use of Dips is for plotting and analyzing planar data on a stereonet. The Pole Vectors entity in the Visibility tree represents the Pole Data Grid planes, defined by the planar orientation data in the first two columns (Orientation Columns).
The data may be presented in any of the following (processed) conventions:
- Dip/Dip Direction
- Strike(Right)/Dip
- Strike(Left)/Dip
- Trend/Plunge (i.e., pole vector)
Visibility
Pole Vectors always appear under the Visibility
tree. To toggle on/off visibility, click on the Visibility
icon.
Properties
The following options are available in the Properties pane:
POLE MODE
By default, the Pole Mode is set to Vector, which plots a Pole (or Dip) Vector Plot. There are 3 Pole Modes:
- Vector
- Symbolic
- Symbolic by Set
To set the Pole Mode:
- Select Pole Vectors from the Visibility tree.
- Set the Pole Mode from the drop down.
SHOW POLE PLANES
To display ALL of the planes (great circles) corresponding to all of the data (poles) in the Dips Pole Data Grid:
- Select Pole Vectors from the Visibility tree.
- Tick the Show Pole Planes checkbox.
Selection
Individual pole selection is possible with the Select Poles option.
