Symbolic Options
The Symbolic Options can be edited in the Symbolic Options dialog.
- Select Presets > Symbolic
> Symbolic Options
from the Stereonet 2D ribbon. - The Symbolic Plot Options dialog appears, allowing you to select the data to plot.
- Select the Data Column that you wish to plot from the drop down.
- Select Data Type as either Qualitative or Quantitative data.
- Click OK to generate/update the Symbolic Plot.
Only columns with a Numeric Data Format can be plotted as Quantitative.
- If your Data Type is Qualitative, use the Allocated Items list boxes to focus on data of interest. See the Qualitative Symbolic Plot topic for more information.
- If your Data Type is Quantitative, optionally use a Custom Range, Number of Intervals, and scale the data as either Normal or Logarithmic. See the Quantitative Symbolic Plot topic for more information.
Symbols
To customize the actual symbols used in the plots, use the Edit Symbols option in the Symbolic Plot Options dialog.
For practical reasons, a maximum of 20 symbols can be defined. Beyond this limit, symbols become difficult to visually distinguish.
- Up to 20 items can be selected for a Qualitative Symbolic Plot under Allocated Items
- Up to 20 Intervals can be specified for a Quantitative Symbolic Plot
See the Edit Symbols topic for more information.
