Intersections Overview
The intersection of two planes is a line in 3-dimensional space with Trend/Plunge orientation. An intersection line is represented as a point on the stereonet.
The Intersections entity in the Visibility tree represents planar intersection vectors of the selected Intersection Type.
Visibility
Intersections always appear under the Visibility tree. To toggle on/off visibility, click on the Visibility
icon.
Properties
The following options are available in the Properties pane:
INTERSECTION TYPE
Intersection types are as follows:
- Pole
- All Set vs. Set (Pole)
- Set vs. Set (Pole)
- Mean Set Plane
- Mean Set Plane and User Plane
- User Plane
To set the Intersection Type:
- Select Intersections from the Visibility tree.
- Set the Intersection Type from the drop down.
- If Set vs. Set Intersection Type is selected, set the Set vs. Set using the drop down containing all set pairs.
See the Intersection Types topic for more information.
Intersection Vector Density Contours
Pole Intersections data can also be represented in the form of an Intersection Vector Density Contour plot.
Kinematic Analysis
Intersection plotting is required for the Wedge Sliding and Direct Toppling Kinematic Analysis modes.
