Kinematic Analysis Overview
The Kinematic Analysis option in Dips allows you to easily and quickly check for various rock slope stability failure modes on a Stereonet Plot. Simply input the slope orientation (Slope Dip, Slope Dip Direction), Friction Angle, and Lateral Limits and choose one of the following failure modes:
To enable Kinematic Analysis:
- Select Slope Kinematics > Analysis
from the Stereonet 2D ribbon. - The Kinematic Analysis dialog appears. Select the Apply Kinematic Analysis checkbox.
- Select the Failure Mode from the drop down.
- Enter the Kinematic Properties (Slope Dip, Slope Dip Direction, Friction Angle, Lateral Limits).
- Click OK.
The stereonet will display a Kinematic Analysis overlay for the currently selected failure mode. A summary of results is displayed in the Legend.
Alternatively, Kinematic Analysis visibility can be toggled in the Visibility tree, and the Kinematic Analysis dialog can be opened by clicking the Kinematic Analysis button in the Properties pane.
For complete details about each of the failure modes (Planar Sliding, Wedge Sliding, Flexural Toppling, Direct Toppling), see the links above.
