Selection Overview
The majority of entities support two-way selection to make the interactive experience of Dips better for the user. The user can select entities either:
- Listed in the Visibility tree
- Graphically from the Stereonet 2D viewport
Visibility Tree
Selecting an item in the Visibility tree highlights the entry in the tree and highlights the same object in the Stereonet 2D view, making the entity easy to locate visually.
- LEFT-CLICK on an entity in the Visibility tree to select. The Properties pane shows the corresponding properties for the selected object.
- Hold CTRL and LEFT-CLICK on entities in the Visibility tree to do multiple selection.
The Properties pane is not available for multi-selection.
Graphical Selection
Selecting an item in the Stereonet 2D view highlights the entity and highlights the same object in the Visibility tree.
- LEFT-CLICK on an entity in the viewport to select (as you move your mouse over a selectable entity, it will have a soft glow and display tooltips). The Visibility tree highlights the selected entity, and the Properties pane shows the corresponding properties for the selected object.
- Hold CTRL and LEFT-CLICK on entities in the viewport to do multiple selection.
The Properties pane is not available for multi-selection.
- Pole Vectors graphical selection works differently from other entity types. See the Select Poles topic for more information.
- Intersections do not support graphical selection (due to performance).
- Overlays such as Contours, Kinematic Analysis, and Stereonet Overlay do not support selection.
