Curved Borehole Televiewer
The Curved Borehole Televiewer Traverse Type should be used when you have:
- A non-linear borehole with curvature defined by a survey file
- Joint orientations processed into true Dip/Dip Direction (or Strike/Dip, or Trend/Plunge) readings using televiewer or other method (e.g., processed oriented core)
The Curved Borehole Televiewer Traverse option allows you to apply Terzaghi Weighting to joints measured on a curved borehole by determining the orientation of the borehole for each joint measurement and applying the appropriate weighting factor based on the relative orientation of the borehole and the joint plane.
If you have unprocessed oriented core taken from a curved borehole (i.e., Alpha/Beta angles), then you should use the Curved Borehole Oriented Core option rather than the Curved Borehole Televiewer option.
Data Orientation Convention
The Data Orientation Convention refers to the orientation format of the data collected on a Traverse. For each Spot Mapping discontinuity, the orientation format of the data you enter in the first two columns of the Discontinuities grid (in the Orientation Data dialog) must correspond to the Data Orientation Convention selected.
The following Data Orientation Conventions are available:
- Dip/Dip Direction
- Strike(Right)/Dip
- Strike(Left)/Dip
- Trend/Plunge
The Data Orientation Convention option allows you to specify the orientation format for individual Traverses. This allows you to combine different data formats within the same DIPS file.
If the Data Orientation Convention is different from the Reporting Orientation (entered in Project Settings), the raw input orientations will be automatically converted to the equivalent Reporting Orientation.
Traverse Format
The Traverse Format for a Curved Borehole Televiewer Traverse is Survey Data. The Survey Data tab allows you to input the corresponding survey data for the borehole. See the Survey Data topic for more information.
