Add Curved Set Window
Sets can be created in Dips with the Add Curved Set Window option.
The Add Curved Set Window option allows you to draw windows around data clusters on the stereonet, for the purpose of obtaining mean orientations of data (poles) within the windows. The mean orientations can be plotted as poles and/or planes on the stereonet, and set statistics (confidence and variability cones) can be plotted. The Set Windows created with the Add Curved Set Window option are curvilinear four-sided windows, defined by two trend values and two plunge values at opposite corners.
To add a Set Window:
- Select Sets > Add Curved
from the Stereonet 2D (or Rosette) ribbon. - Left-click to position the first corner.
- Left-click again to position the second corner.
- The Edit Curved Set Window dialog appears with options to modify the Name, Color, First Corner, Second Corner and Set Statistics. The First Corner and Second Corner can also be graphically modified by left-clicking and dragging the window handles.
- Click OK to finalize the Curved Set Window and add it to the view.
Name
The Name acts as the set's identifier and must be unique (i.e., two Sets cannot have the same Name).
Color
The Color provides a graphical way to identify the Set Window. For any given Set Window, the Color is shared between all views.
Window Limits
The First Corner and Second Corner are displayed and entered according to the Reporting Orientation Convention. The First Corner and Second Corner can be modified either in the Edit Curved Set Window dialog or graphically.
Set Statistics
Confidence and Variability limits can be computed for the selected intervals.
