Legend Overview
For the Stereonet 2D view, various Legends can be displayed according to the data which is currently being viewed.
Legend Visibility
To show the Legend Pane:
- Click on the Legend tab on the left of the Stereonet 2D view.
- The Legend pane will expand.
To hide the Legend Pane:
- Hover the mouse over the Legend pane to make the Legend tab appear.
- Click on the Legend tab.
- The Legend pane will retract.
To show or hide individual legends (e.g., symbol, contour), select checkboxes in the Legend Options dialog.
The following Legends can be displayed:
Properties
The Properties Legend is shown by default and contains:
- Plot Mode: Pole Vector or Dip Vector
- Vector Count
- Intersection Mode (when Intersections are ON)
- Intersections Count (when Intersections are ON)
- Terzaghi Weighting (when Terzaghi Weighting is ON)
- Hemisphere
- Projection
Symbol
The Symbol Legend will display the legend for basic Pole/Dip Vectors, Intersections, and Symbols for Symbolic Plots. When Kinematic Analysis is ON, it will also show Critical Vectors and Critical Intersections.
Contour
The Contour Legend will display the legend for Pole/Dip Vector Density, or Intersection Vector Density, or Qualitative Contour Plots.
NOTE: The Contour Legend is visible by default when Contours are visible. It is hidden otherwise.
Major Planes
The Major Planes Legend will display the legend for User Planes and Mean Set Planes.
TIP: If the plane orientation format is not Dip/Dip Direction (e.g., Trend/Plunge), then click on the Reporting Orientation option in the lower right corner of the screen and select the Dip/Dip Direction format to display.
Major Plane Intersections
The Major Plane Intersections Legend will display the Trend/Plunge orientations for Major Plane Intersections (i.e., intersections between User Planes and/or Mean Set Planes).
The Major Plane Intersections Legend is visible by default when:
- User Planes or Mean Set Planes are visible
- Intersections are visible, and Intersection Type is Mean Set Planes, Mean Set Planes and User Planes, or User Planes
It is hidden otherwise.
Kinematic
The Kinematic Legend will display a summary of results for the current Kinematic Analysis mode (e.g., Planar Sliding, Wedge Sliding, Flexural Toppling, Direct Toppling).
In addition, you can toggle the display of weighted or unweighted results with the Weighting > Apply Weighting option in the Stereonet 2D ribbon.
