Export DFN

The Export DFN option allows users to export the fracture geometry of a DFN or the fracture information of a DFN as a .csv file.

To export DFN fracture geometry:

  1. Go to File > Export > Export DFN to open the Export DFN dialog. Alternatively, in the Rock Mass Rock mass view, select a DFN in the Visibility pane and select Rock Mass > Export > Export DFN export dfn in the ribbon.
  2. In the Export DFN dialog:
    1. Select which DFN to export from the Export drop down. You can also export All DFNs in the DIPS file.
    2. The number of realizations to generate per DFN is set using Number of Realizations
    3. The Number of DFNs to export shows the total number of DFNs that will be exported. This number is equal to the Number of Realizations if one DFN is selected in the Export drop down, or it is equal to the Number of Realizations multiplied by the total number of DFNs in the file if All DFNs is selected in the Export drop down.
    4. The base name of the exported files can be edited using Name.
    5. Select the file format type for the exported DFN files in the Format drop down. The fracture geometry can be exported in the following file formats:
      • .rsgeomobj
      • .obj
      • .stl
      • .ply
      • .off
      • .dxf
      • .dwg
      • .stl
    6. Alternatively, the fracture information can be exported as .csv. The csv file contains the following columns:

      • Fracture ID
      • DFN Set Name
      • X (center)
      • Y (center)
      • Z (center)
      • Dip (degrees)
      • Dip Direction (degrees)
      • Size
      • Fracture Area
      • Sides
      • Elongation Ratio
      • Elongation Angle (degrees)
      • Rotation (degrees)
    7. Click Select Folder to select which folder to save the files in.
