Intersection Vector Density Contour Plot
Dips can plot the intersections of Pole Data Grid planes (i.e., All Pole Intersections) on the stereonet. The intersection of two planes is a line in 3-dimensional space with Trend/Plunge orientation. An intersection line is represented as a point on the stereonet. Intersections can be plotted as points or contours on the stereonet.
To plot intersection contours:
- Select Contours from the Visibility tree.
- Set Visibility = ON.
- Set Contour Type = Intersection Vector Density from the drop down in the Properties pane.
The contours represent statistical intersection concentrations, calculated using the distribution method (Fisher or Schmidt) specified in the Edit Contour Data dialog.
Terzaghi Weighting
Intersection Vector Density Contour Plot is also affected by Terzaghi Weighting since a weight is applied to the quantity of poles, which affects the quantity of pole intersections.
Intersection contours may be helpful for Kinematic Analysis of Wedge Sliding and Direct Toppling, since you can easily see the maximum concentrations of intersections on the stereonet.
