Query Overview (Groundwater)

The Query options in the Groundwater menu, allow you to create a line or polyline within the soil or rock mass (i.e. anywhere within the External Boundary of the model), along which data is interpolated from the groundwater contour plots, at user-defined intervals. After a query is created, the data can be:

  • graphed
  • displayed directly on the model
  • copied to the clipboard
  • saved to a file

A query is created with the Add Material Query option in the Groundwater menu. The user can enter an arbitrary point, line or polyline, to obtain data at any location.

  • After creating a Query, as you select different data to view (e.g. Pressure Head, Total Head, Discharge Velocity), the queried values automatically get updated to correspond to the contoured data. The queried values always correspond to the contoured data currently being viewed.
  • The values generated by a Query are true interpolated values and are NOT simply the nearest nodal values.
  • Queries are added on a per-view basis so that if multiple views are open, each different view can have its own queries.
  • A single "point" Query can automatically be created at each node of the finite element mesh, with the Query All Nodes option.
  • DO NOT CONFUSE the Query options in the Groundwater menu, with the Query options for slip surfaces. See the Query Overview (slope stability) topic, for a description of how to create queries for slip surfaces.
