Paste from Interpret

The Paste from Interpret option allows you to import entities from the Slide2 Interpret program, back into the Slide2 Model program, to be used as boundaries or other modelling entities. This includes the following types of entities from the Slide2 Interpret program:

  • Water Table determined from a Finite Element groundwater analysis
  • Non-circular slip surfaces (e.g. generated by a Path Search or Block Search)
  • Drawing tool entities: Polyline, Polygon or Pencil
  • Iso-lines or Flow-lines from a Finite Element groundwater analysis

The Paste from Interpret option allows you to use analysis results from the Slide2 Interpret program, as "feedback" into the Slide2 Model program, allowing the user to iteratively analyze a problem.

To use the Paste from Interpret option:

  1. First, you must select the desired entity in the Slide2 Interpret program. This is done by right-clicking on the entity, and selecting Copy (Slide2 Modeler Format) from the right-click menu. This will copy the entity to the Windows clipboard.
  2. Now, in the Slide2 Model program, select Edit > Paste from Interpret.
  3. You will see a dialog. Select the type of modelling entity that you would like to create (for example: "Water Table" or "Material Boundary").
  4. Select OK, and the entity will be imported from the clipboard, into the Slide2 Model program, as the entity type you selected in Step 3.

There are many possible uses for this option. For example:

  • After a Slide2 groundwater analysis, the Water Table determined from the finite element analysis is displayed in the Slide2 Interpret program. You may wish to export this Water Table back into the Slide2 Model program, so that you can re-run the analysis using Water Surfaces as the Groundwater Method, and using the Water Table determined by the finite element analysis.
  • Other uses are possible, for example, to import slip surfaces after a Block Search or Path Search, from Interpret back into Model, so that the surface can be analyzed as an individual surface (if you wish to import a surface other than the Global Minimum slip surface, you will first have to create a Query for the slip surface. Then you can right-click on the query, to copy the surface to the clipboard).
If you import a Water Table, an Iso-Line or a Flow-line (after a finite element groundwater analysis), you may notice that the imported entity (in the Slide2 Model program), has a large number of vertices. This is because the entity will have a vertex at each intersection with the original finite element mesh. If desired, you may wish to delete unnecessary vertices. Use the Delete Vertex option to delete unnecessary vertices, so that the boundary is defined by a smaller number of vertices, without any loss in the accuracy of the boundary position.
