Create External From Surface

The Create External from Surface option allows you to generate an External Volume from a selected surface.

  1. Select the Geometry geometry workflow tab workflow tab.
  2. Select a Surface geometry entity in the model view or the Visibility pane. Only ONE surface entity can be selected.
  3. Select Create External from Surface from the Geometry menu.
  4. In the dialog, enter the desired Elevation (z coordinate) for the bottom of the External boundary.
  5. Select OK to generate the External volume from the selected surface.

The generated External volume will use the perimeter of the selected surface (in the XY plan view) and extrude this downwards in the Z-direction to the specified elevation to form a closed External volume.

The Create External from Surface option is useful, for example, if you have a 3D slope surface (e.g. open pit mine shell) and you want to quickly create a closed External volume based on the perimeter of this surface.
