Liquefaction
A liquefaction analysis can be carried out in Settle3 alongside, or independent of, a settlement analysis.
Input Data
A liquefaction analysis can be carried out with any of the following input data:
- Standard Penetration Test (SPT)
- Cone Penetration Test (CPT)
- Shear Wave Velocity (VST)
Input data can be entered in either metric or imperial units. In the case of imperial units, the data is converted to metric within the program in order to apply the liquefaction equations.
The input data type is specified in the Project Settings dialog. The Liquefaction Options dialog is customized to the input data type specified in the Project Settings and appropriate correction factors and scaling factors are selected in that dialog. The earthquake data (acceleration, magnitude, etc.) is also specified in the Liquefaction Options dialog.
The Liquefaction Analysis Options dialog also changes based on the input data type selected.
Liquefaction Analysis Results
Liquefaction analysis results can be calculated at any user-defined query point, and three sets of results are generated: Data, Triggering, Post-Triggering. These results are displayed in chart form, and can be individually exported to Excel.
The results calculated are:
- Data
- Triggering
- Post-Triggering
Notes
- In order to carry out a liquefaction analysis, you must select the Groundwater Analysis checkbox in Project Settings.
- Liquefaction analyses can be carried out on models using the Piezometric Lines or groundwater Grid methods only.
- The settlement results calculated as part of the liquefaction analysis are entirely separate from the other settlement results. The results are not superimposed in any way.
