Introduction
MultiPhoto is a user-friendly software component that enables the reconstruction of 3D models from multiple overlapping images using photogrammetric methods and Structure from Motion (SfM) algorithms. SfM comprises a sequence of algorithmic steps, including feature extraction and image matching, camera alignment, and dense point-cloud reconstruction, resulting in detailed and photo-realistic surface representations. The software extracts EXIF (exchangeable image file format) metadata from the images, such as camera settings, date and time of image capture but also focal length, and pixel size (pixel pitch). This information allows the algorithm to automatically align images, estimate camera parameters through auto-calibration.
Another characteristic of MultiPhoto is its high degree of automation, meaning that the 3D model generation process requires only limited user interaction. Once all input parameters are defined, the reconstruction is performed by the software. In addition, MultiPhoto provides the possibility to scale a generic 3D model to a metric model within a local coordinate system or to reference the 3D model to a higher-level coordinate system using externally surveyed Ground Control Points (GCPs) or Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) positioning. After the reconstruction process is completed, MultiPhoto automatically generates a quality report in PDF format and an orthophoto in PNG format.
This user manual addresses all topics related to the MultiPhoto i.e. installation, user interfaces, features and operations. Let us know if we can support you, and give us your valuable feedback. Only this way it remains possible to keep the system both, flexible enough for broad usage and sufficiently specific for your applications.
We wish you success with the MultiPhoto.
