Definitions
Following terms are used in the software:
- Particles - Detected fragments with defined boundaries
- Fines - Regions consisting of a multitude of fragments which cannot be detected as individual fragments. This is typically the case when the particle size is smaller than the resolution limit.
- Borders - Outline borderline fragments that cross the analysis mask. Those fragments may not reflect their actual size, they are possibly cut by the mask.
- Voids - Voids are regions which do not contribute to the fragmentation analysis results; they are excluded from the fragmentation analysis. Voids can only be assigned by the user.
- MPS - Median Point Spacing is the median value of the 3D point spacing of the 3D model’s point cloud
- GSD - Ground Sample Distance is the size of ground captured by one pixel. This also refers to the geometric image resolution.
- PSD - Particle Size Distribution is a plot of the relative (cumulative) amount of particles according to the particle size
The minimum size of a detectable fragment depends on the 3D point spacing and the image resolution. Fragments smaller than this minimum size cannot be detected as individual particles.
