The formulation for Soft Clay with User-Defined J is the same as the Soft Clay Soil formulation, with the exception of the user-defined J parameter.

The following material properties need to be defined (Matlock, 1970):

  • Strain Factor (E50) - strain corresponding to 1/2 the maximum principal stress difference (typical values are provided in the table below)
  • Undrained Shear Strength
  • Stiffness Factor, J
