Projects

In RSLog, test hole data is organized into separate Projects. The Project details define the location and parameters of your geotechnical project.

To access this page:

Go to the left-hand navigation menu and select Data Entry > Projects.

The page should appear as follows:

From this page you can create and edit projects, as well as load the project you wish to work on.


Create a New Project

Before you can begin entering test hole data, you must first create a New Project.

  1. Select Projects in the navigation panel.
  2. Click + New Project. A dialog will appear.
  3. Enter project details (title, client name, site location, etc.)
    Note: Client names can be entered manually or selected from the drop-down list of your Contacts
  4. Click Save to create the project.

After saving you will be taken to the list of test holes. See the Test Holes help page for more information.

Site Location

When entering your Project Details, you will be asked to enter a Site Location. The Site Location can be a civic address or geographic coordinates. If an address is not available, you can click on the ‘map icon’ next to the address and set your project location on the map by following the below steps:

  1. Click on the Map icon.
  2. Use your mouse to drag the pin to a new location on the map (the specific location does not matter for this example).
  3. Click on the Polygon tool to draw a polygon to represent the site layout. This will be used later for preparation of site location figure, which is typically part of the engineering reports.
  4. Double click on the map to close the polygon.
  5. Click Save to close the dialog.
  6. Once the site location is specified on the map, the geographic location will be automatically added to the form.

Coordinate System

If you don’t have UTM coordinates for your test holes, we highly recommend that you set the project’s coordinate system to Geographic. This allows you to select the test hole locations on the map as explained in the Site Location section above. By selecting a location on the map, the geographic (Latitude/Longitude) location will automatically be added to the form.

Unit System

The Unit System selected determines the unit system that will be used for all Test Hole and Lab Test data. Users can select:

  • Imperial
  • Metric (East Asia)
  • Metric (US)

QR Web Link

A QR code is a two-dimensional barcode system that opens a web page when scanned by the camera of your cell phone or tablet. This could be your company website, a link to your geotechnical report, a link to a ftp website to allow downloading files, etc.

In RSLog, you can insert a QR code on the header or footer of your report, via the Template Editor feature.

For the QR Web Link field, you will need to specify a suitable URL prefix when entering the QR web link:

  • http:// most of the web addresses start with this prefix. (Note: If you don't enter any prefix for your web link, this is added by default.)
  • https:// for secure websites.
  • ftp:// when you would like to redirect user to a page to download files.
  • mailto: links to an email address

Opening an existing Project

If you have multiple projects saved in your RSLog account and wish to edit or enter new Test Hole data, you will need to first open the Project.

To open a Project for data entry or reporting:

  1. Select Projects in the navigation panel.
  2. Click on the Open Project button below the project you wish to open. This will load the project data.
  3. Click on the Test Holes option in the navigation panel to then see the list of all test holes for this project.

Editing an existing Project

To edit the Project Details of an existing project:

  1. Click on the cogwheel icon next to the Project.
  2. A dialog will appear. Edit the necessary fields.
  3. Click Save.
