Import / Export

Various import / export options are available depending on the Display Mode.

Import Features

The following provides a summary of all import features available in Cross-Section Designer. To import a file, use the Import menu on the top toolbar:

RSLog Model (*.JSON)
Opens a Cross-Section Designer (ver 3.0 or higher) model (proprietary format).

Raster Image (*.PNG, *.JPG)
Imports a raster image into the model.

Google Earth (*.KML, *.KMZ)
Imports a Google Earth file into the model as a GIS layer.

GeoJSON (*.JSON)
Imports a GeoJSON file into the model as a GIS layer.

GPS Exchange (*.GPX)
Imports a GPS Exchange file into the model as a GIS layer.

Well Known Text (*.WKT)
Imports a Well Known Text file into the model as a GIS layer.

Shapefile (*.ZIP)
Imports a compressed Shape file into the model as a GIS layer.

Ground Surface Profile

Downloads estimated ground surface elevations at 100 points along the centerline of cross-section, and adds it to the model.

Export Features

The following provides a summary of all export features available in Cross-Section Designer. To export the model, use the Export menu on the top toolbar:

Google Earth (*.KML, *.KMZ)
Exports the model to Google Earth format. User can select which component(s) should be exported (i.e. boreholes, cross-sections, etc).
AutoCAD (*.DXF)
Exports the entire cross-section design into DXF format. User can select which component(s) should be exported (i.e. boreholes, cross-sections, etc).

Autodesk Civil3D (*.ZIP)
Exports the borehole data to an Excel format that could be imported into Civil3D.
Bentley OpenRoads (*.ZIP)
Exports the borehole data to an Excel format that could be imported into OpenRoads.
RSLog Model (*.JSON)
Exports the model to Cross-Section Designer proprietary JSON format.

Raster Image (*.PNG)
Exports the model to raster image.
Vector Image (*.SVG)
Exports the model to vector image.
GeoJSON (*.JSON)
Exports the boreholes to GeoJSON format.
Strata Design Polygons (*.JSON)

Exports the list of all strata polygons (for all cross-sections in the project) and boreholes data to a proprietary JSON format. The coordinates of vertices are provided in both 2D and 3D format.

GL Transmission Format (*.glTF)
Exports the entire 3D model to glTF format. This file can be imported into most 3D graphic design software.

Lithography (*.STL)
Exports the entire 3D model to STL format. This file can be imported into most 3D graphic design software.

Wavefront Object (*.OBJ)
Exports the entire 3D model to OBJ and MTL formats. These files can be imported into most 3D graphic design software.
