Rocscience International Conference Best Student Paper (RBSP)

We welcome students to participate in this exciting and prestigious international contest by submitting geotechnical engineering abstracts and papers for the Rocscience International Conference 2023 (RIC2023), to be held in Toronto, Canada on April 24-26, 2023.

Interested students must submit a 2-page extended abstract for review by the Student Contest Committee, which will select the finalists. The finalists must then submit full papers and present them at a Student Paper Contest oral session.

Awards

RIC2023 will award three prizes:

The contest seeks to encourage students to apply geotechnical concepts and modelling tools to real-world problems. It wants to inspire students to develop creative problem-solving skills and effectively communicate their ideas, highly prized attributes in industry and academia.

Submission

Participating students must submit the extended abstract along with a letter from their primary supervisor by November 30, 2022, using the submission form on this webpage. The abstract submission must indicate that the student wishes to participate in the Best Student Paper Contest.

    Selection Process

A panel of industry and academia judges (and from various geotechnical sub-specialties) will review the submissions. We expect the evaluation process to be completed by the end of January. The judges will select the top four submissions as finalists. The finalists must submit full papers and present them at the Student Paper Contest oral session at RIC2023 in Toronto, Canada next April.

    Qualifications & Eligibility

    • RBSP considers a student to be an individual enrolled full-time in an accredited college or university during the work period.
    • Ph.D. students are eligible.
    • Post-doctoral researchers are not eligible if their submission covers work done outside their full-time study period.
    • The student's primary supervisor (faculty member) from the geotechnical engineering program must submit a letter indicating that the work presented in the paper was done primarily by the student contestant and performed while enrolled full-time.
    • The submitting student must be the first author.
    • Where the submission has more than one author, the letter mentioned above would have to state that the contributions by other co-authors are minor or secondary.
    • The submitting student will present at the designated session.

    Registration

Registration for the competition is free.

We look forward to excellent submissions from your students. Due to the expected high participation rate, we encourage your students to register early for the competition.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us directly via email at ric2023@rocscience.com
