Opening Section Definition
The term Opening Section in UnWedge refers to the two-dimensional cross-section of the excavation you wish to analyze, where the cross-section is perpendicular to the axis (trend/plunge) of the excavation.
For example:
- If you are analyzing a horizontal tunnel, the Opening Section represents a vertical cross-section perpendicular to the axis of the tunnel.
- If you are analyzing a vertical shaft, the Opening Section represents a horizontal section through the shaft.
- In general, for any excavation orientation, the Opening Section is always a cross-section perpendicular to the trend/plunge of the excavation axis.
Remember that the excavation or tunnel that you analyze with UnWedge is assumed to have a constant cross-section along its axis.
The boundary of the Opening Section can only be defined in the Opening Section view. See the Opening Section View and Add Opening Section topics for more information.
