Analysis Type

There are two types of analyses that can be used to assess wedge stability with UnWedge:

The Analysis Type is selected in the General tab of the Project Settings dialog. The required Input Data and analysis results depend upon the currently selected Analysis Type as summarized below.

Deterministic Analysis

In a Deterministic Analysis, it is assumed that all input parameters are "exactly" known (e.g., joint orientations, shear strength, etc.). UnWedge computes the factors of safety (FS) for each wedge for a single wedge arrangement.

See the Steps for a Typical Deterministic Analysis topic for more information.

Probabilistic Analysis

In a Probabilistic Analysis, statistical information can be entered to account for uncertainty in joint orientation, shear strength, and other parameters. This results in a Factor of Safety distribution for each wedge from which probabilities of failure (PF) are calculated.

See the Steps for a Typical Probabilistic Analysis topic for more information.
