Compute
The SWedge analysis is automatically computed:
- when input data is entered or modified in a dialog (e.g. Input Data, Project Settings, Scale Wedge), and Apply or OK is selected in the dialog
- when support is added or edited
- when a previously saved file is opened
This ensures that the latest analysis results are always presented in the Sidebar (wedge information panel), and all SWedge views (e.g. Info Viewer, Stereonet View etc).
Compute Option
The Compute option in the toolbar or Analysis menu can also be used to Compute the SWedge analysis. However, for a Deterministic analysis, the Compute option is generally not required, because the analysis results corresponding to the current input data, should always be displayed. Therefore, if you select the Compute option for a Deterministic Analysis, the results (e.g. safety factor) should not change.
Geometry Validation
SWedge always checks if the wedge geometry is valid, before proceeding to calculate a Safety Factor for a given wedge. If the orientation of the Joint planes, Slope planes and Tension Crack (if present) do not form a kinematically admissible wedge (i.e. a wedge which can be removed from the slope), then you will see the message "No Wedge Formed" displayed in the Sidebar wedge information panel, and the analysis will not be computed.
