Compute
The SWedge Probabilistic Analysis is automatically computed:
- When input data is entered or modified in a dialog (e.g. Input Data, Project Settings, Scale Wedge), and Apply or OK is selected in the dialog.
- When support is added or edited.
- When a previously saved file is opened.
This ensures that the latest analysis results are always presented in the Sidebar (wedge information panel), and all SWedge views (e.g. Info Viewer, Stereonet View, Histograms, Scatter Plots etc).
Compute Option
The Compute option in the toolbar or Analysis menu, can also be used to Compute the SWedge probabilistic analysis. NOTE:
- If the Pseudo-Random option is selected in Project Settings, then the results will NOT change if you re-run the probabilistic analysis (for a given seed value). Pseudo-Random Sampling allows you to obtain reproducible results for a Probabilistic analysis.
- If the Random option is selected in Project Settings, then analysis results will be different each time you re-compute a Probabilistic Analysis. All views of the current document will be automatically updated to reflect the current analysis results (e.g. Histograms, Info Viewer, Stereonet View).
See the Random Numbers topic for more information about Pseudo-Random versus Random sampling in SWedge.
Geometry Validation
SWedge always checks if the wedge geometry is valid, before proceeding to calculate a Safety Factor for a given wedge. If the orientation of the Joint planes, Slope planes and Tension Crack (if present) do not form a kinematically admissible wedge (i.e. a wedge which can be removed from the slope), then a safety factor will not be calculated for these cases.
