Simple Bolt Force

With the Simple Bolt Force model, the specified Force is always applied to the wedge in the direction of the bolt orientation. If you open an older version (version 6 or earlier) SWedge file with bolts, a bolt property of Simple Bolt Force type will be created with the capacity as the bolt force.

  • The force is applied regardless of the orientation of the bolt with respect to the wedge planes, and it does not matter whether the bolt intersects a shearing plane or a dilating plane.
  • The full force is always used (i.e. Bolt Efficiency is not specified).
  • Shear force is not considered.
  • The orientation of the force is always in the direction of the bolt.

The Simple Bolt Force model is useful if you simply want to apply a known force to a wedge in a known direction. This could be used to model support, or an arbitrary line load applied to a wedge.
