A note from the President of Rocscience

In the last 20 years, Rocscience has grown far beyond what I could have ever imagined. My association with the company started in 1999 after I completed my Ph.D. under Professor John Curran at the University of Toronto.

Incorporated in 1996, Rocscience has continued to develop numerous state-of-the-art geotechnical programs to solve the most challenging as well as real-world geotechnical problems. Although we pride ourselves as engineers, our customers are at the core of everything we do at Rocscience.

Today we serve customers from over 120 countries. To ensure that we keep the same level of dedication to our customers and the continued growth of our operations, now it is necessary to expand Rocscience. Therefore, we are starting the new decade with the announcement of our three new international offices and welcome the new Directors leading each of them.

These appointments better position us to provide the customer care and support needed to nurture and grow our already substantial global presence.

Dr. Reginald Hammah will be heading our office in Ghana and looking after our market in Africa. Reginald comes with 25 years of consulting experience in the field of geomechanics and has been instrumental in the initiation of RS2.

Our office in South America is located in Peru and will be headed by Mr. Raul Demarini, who has been a Rocscience Representative for many years. Raul has focused on Geotechnical Field Instrumentation and Slope Stability and has over 20 years of experience as a civil engineer.

Our office in Australia will be headed by Dr. Alison McQuillan, who will be responsible for our growth in Australia and New Zealand while overseeing operations in South-East Asia. In addition to her years as a Rocscience Representative and her more than 15 years in the industry, Alison brings her extensive experience using Slide3 and RS3 to validate a new empirical-statistical methodology for assessing the slope stability of open cut coal mine excavated slopes.

I would also like to take this opportunity to introduce two newly appointed Rocscience Representatives in the UK and Italy. These appointments mark our official entry into the European Market, and I am extremely excited to expand our operations there.

Dr. Ian Williams is our Representative in the UK and will be working to raise the profile of the Rocscience brand in the UK. He brings a blend of academic, industrial, and business experience that will help him provide existing and prospective users with the right balance of technical and practical guidance.

Our Representative in Italy is Nicola Brusa. Nico is a consultant at Tailor Engineering, an independent geotechnical consultancy firm based in Italy.

With Ian’s and Nico’s addition to the Rocscience Representative team, our customers in Europe now have local points of contact who would be able to assist while still maintaining Rocscience’s global expertise.

I congratulate and welcome my new team and entrust them to take Rocscience to greater heights. I also thank you for being a part of our journey so far and look forward to greater collaborations soon.

Dr. Thamer Yacoub

President, Rocscience Inc.
