Day 1:

Module 1 – Discussion on Fundamentals of Slope Stability Analysis

  • Overview of Slope Stability Analysis Methods and Design considerations
  • Overview of Measures of Stability – Factor of Safety using Limit equilibrium analysis, Deformation and Strength Reduction Factor using Finite element analysis
  • Comparison of Deterministic and Probabilistic analysis methods
  • Overview of different analysis methods, search methods and optimization methods in Slide2 and Slide3

Module 2 – Slope stability modeling with Slide2

  • Slide2 model set up – including importing geometry, geometry clean up, assigning materials properties, assigning analysis and search methods
  • Results interpretation
  • Thrust line validation
  • Comparison of deterministic and probabilistic results

Module 3 – Validation of 2D LE results

  • Validation of Slide2 model with RS2 – value of Shear Strength Reduction comparison

Day 2:

Module 4 – Discussion on 3D slope stability analysis

  • When to model in 3D
  • Case histories

Module 5 – Slope stability modelling with Slide3

  • Slide3 model set up – including importing geometry, geometry clean up, assigning materials properties, assigning analysis and search methods
  • Results interpretation

Module 6 – Validation of 3D LE results

  • Validation of Slide3 model with RS3 – value of Shear Strength Reduction comparison
  • Importing and validation using slope monitoring data – e.g. radar and satellite data
