Day 1

Module 1: Overview of Limit-Equilibrium Methods for Slope Stability Analysis

  • Failure modes of soil and rock slopes
  • The limit equilibrium analysis method for slope stability analysis

Module 2: 2D Slope stability analysis

  • Key features in Slide2 LEM software
  • Introducing Slide2-RSLog integration

Module 3: Searching Methods

  • Method selection for locating minimum factor of safety.
  • Failure surface optimization techniques.
  • Multi-Modal optimization in LEM.

Module 4: Material Strength Models

  • Introducing material strength models in Slide2.
  • Introducing different weak layer handling techniques in Slide2.


Day 2

Module 5: Groundwater Modeling Options in 2D and 3D

  • Phreatic Lines and Excess Pore Water Pressure Ratio Definitions
  • Steady State and Transient Groundwater Flow Modeling Options

Module 6: Modeling Supports for Slope Stability Analysis

  • Introducing different support types in Slide2 including:

- Anchors (End Anchored, Grouted Tiebacks/Ground Anchors, Helical Anchors)

- Geosynthetics

  • Piles/Micropiles

- Soil Nails

- Retaining wall (Equivalent Fluid Pressure)

- User-defined support

  • Introducing Slide2-RSPile integration.

Module 7. Verification of Slide2 results and advanced methods of slope stability analysis

  • Verification of Slide2 results using finite element analysis and integration with RS2.
  • Recognising the limitations of 2D slope stability analysis and introduction to 3D modelling using Slide3 and RS3.

    Course Instructor:

    Dr. Sina Javankhoshdel

    Dr. Sina Javankhoshdel is a Geomechanics Product Manager (Product Manager of Slide2 and Slide3) at Rocscience. He holds his Ph.D. from Queen’s University in Civil Engineering (Geomechanics), joined Rocscience in 2016 and has done research and development work on Slide2 and Slide3. He has been the 3D Expert Modeller at Rocscience since 2018. Dr. Javankhoshdel is an instructor for workshops, webinars, short courses and customized courses, and a presenter at conferences.
