Import from DIPS
If you are performing a Probabilistic analysis with SWedge, the Joint and/or Tension Crack mean orientations and statistical joint set information, can be imported from a DIPS file.
DIPS is a program for the graphical and statistical analysis of orientation data using stereonets, available from Rocscience - click here for more information.
To import statistical orientation information from a DIPS file for an SWedge Probabilistic analysis:
- Select Input Data
and select the Joint1, Joint2, Tension Crack or Basal Joint tab. - Select Orientation Definition Method = Fisher Distribution.
- Select the Import from DIPS
button. - You will see an Open file dialog. Navigate to the desired folder and open the desired DIPS file. You may choose from:
- DIPS .dwp files (created by DIPS version 5)
- DIPS .dipsvs files (created by DIPS version 6 and later)
*.dwp and *.dipsvs files are auxiliary data files generated by the DIPS program. They are used to store joint set information and other data.
