Probability View

The Probability View Probability Icon allows you to see the results of a Probabilistic Analysis. It can be accessed by selecting Probability View from the drop-down menu on the toolbar, or through the Select View sub-menu of the View menu.

The values displayed are selected from the sidebar on the right. There are five different results which can be viewed in Probability View:

  • Maximum Support Pressure represents the maximum support pressure calculated from the selected number of trials (as defined in Project Settings). Say, for example, we have defined 10,000 samples. Due to the variability in our input data, 10,000 different wedge arrangements have been computed. Support Pressure is calculated for each segment from the 10,000 trials and the 10,000 possible wedges which may span this segment. The maximum of these 10,000 possible values is represented by the number displayed on the segment. Take note that Maximum Support Pressure, and all probabilistic output, is a function of location on the tunnel perimeter. The following results are calculated in the same fashion.
  • Maximum Wedge Depth represents the maximum wedge depth for each segment, from the selected number of trials.

NOTE: Wedge Depth and Apex Height are synonymous.

  • Maximum Wedge Weight represents the maximum wedge weight for each segment, from the selected number of trials.
  • Minimum Factor of Safety represents the minimum Factor of Safety for each wedge on each segment, from the selected number of trials.
  • Probability of Failure = Number of Failed Wedges / Number of Samples for each segment. See the Probability of Failure topic for more information.

Percentile Option

The percentile option is available in the Sidebar. It can be used to adjust which values are displayed for each of the results from the drop-down menu on the Sidebar (excluding Probability of Failure).

For Maximum Support Pressure, for example, you use the percentile option in the sidebar to adjust which values of support pressure to show. The default percentile is 100% which is the maximum of all support pressure values computed for a particular segment. However if you wanted to show the 95th percentile, where 95 percent of all support pressure values for this segment lie below this value, you would enter '95' in the Percentile box.

The data can be plotted in a Histogram Plot, Cumulative Plot, or Scatter Plot. Data for individual Picked Wedges can also be plotted. This is explained in the Picked Wedges topic.

Probability Display Options

Select Probability Display Options Probability Display Options Icon from the View menu or right-click menu. The Probability Display Options dialog allows you to set:

  • Display: Values, Show All Values, and/or Minimum and Maximum Values.
  • Size of Largest Value: % of Extents, or [length] in Model.
  • Drawing Style: Draw on Opposite Side, Fill, Hatch, Fill Style, and Colour.
