C/Phi Function

A C/Phi Strength Function allows you to define Mohr-Coulomb Cohesion and Friction Angle as a function of Normal Stress, by entering data in the format Normal Stress / Cohesion / Friction Angle.

To define a C/Phi Strength Function:

  1. Set the Failure Criterion = C/Phi Function in the Material Properties dialog.
  2. Select the Edit Edit Button button beside the failure criterion combo box.
  3. You will see the Define C/Phi Function dialog.
      • To edit an existing c/phi function, select the Function Name from the list at the left of the dialog.
      • To create a new c/phi function, select the Add Add Button button at the lower left corner of the dialog, and enter a Function Name.
  4. Enter or edit the Normal stress, Cohesion and Friction Angle data which defines your C/Phi Function. NOTE:
      • you can use the buttons at the top of the data entry grid to help carry out editing of the data (i.e. insert row, remove row, copy, paste etc)
  5. When all data points have been entered, select OK, and you will be returned to the Material Properties dialog. The Name of the function you have just defined will appear in the C/Phi Function list. By selecting a Function Name from this list, you can now apply a C/Phi Function to any material in the model.

Add/Delete Function

To create a new C/Phi function or delete an existing one use the Add/Delete Add/Delete Button buttons below the function list in the Define C/Phi Strength Function dialog.

Import / Export

C/Phi Functions can be Imported or Exported as a text file using the Import / Export buttons at the bottom of the C/Phi function dialog.
