Probabilistic Analysis with Slide2

In a traditional slope stability analysis, it is assumed that the values of all model input parameters are exactly known. This type of analysis can be referred to as a DETERMINISTIC analysis and results in the location of slip surfaces with a minimum Factor of Safety.

A PROBABILISTIC slope stability analysis can also be carried out with Slide2. In a probabilistic slope stability analysis, the user may assign statistical distributions to model input parameters, such as material properties, support properties, loads, water table location, etc.

Assigning a statistical distribution to one or more model input parameters allows the user to account for the degree of uncertainty in the value of the parameters. This results in a distribution of safety factors and allows you to determine a Probability of Failure (or Reliability Index) for the slope.

See the Probabilistic Analysis Overview topic for more information.
