Imprint Polyline on Geometry

You can use the Imprint Polyline on Geometry option to divide the face of an existing geometry using existing closed polylines. The region on the face inside and outside of the closed polylines will then be selectable to apply loads or boundary conditions and the regions will be considered as additional mesh conforming geometries. within a face without altering the remaining geometry.

  1. Select the Geometry Geology workflow tab workflow tab.
  2. Select an existing closed polyline and geometry. Geometry may include a surface or closed volume. Ensure that at least three points of the polyline touch a face of the selected geometry.
  3. Select Imprint Polyline on Geometry Imprint Polyline on Geometry icon option from the toolbar or in the Drawing Tools sub-menu in the Geometry menu
  4. All faces that have at least three points of the closed polyline touching the face will generate a shadow image of the polyline on the face. The new regions are part of the faces of the geometry.
  5. To delete the imprinted region, you can delete the geometry entity. This will delete the imprinted region only if it was the last operation to be applied on the geometry entity.

After the operation is completed, you can select the region(s) outlined by the polyline on the face(s) of the selected geometry. The selected polyline used during the imprint operation can be edited or deleted as it is no longer needed upon imprint completion.

NOTE: Imprinted regions on External Geometry cannot be removed using the delete option due to the restrictions on External Geometry. Instead, you will need to use the Clear External tool on the External Geometry entity before deleting the geometry.
