Edit Joint Networks

After a joint network has been added to a model, you can edit the properties of the network with the Edit Joint Network option.

Other editing options include:

The Edit Joint Network option is described below. For information about other editing options see the above links.

NOTE: it is not possible to edit individual boundaries in a joint network, unless you first ungroup the joint network. If the joint network has been ungrouped, then it is no longer considered a network (for modeling purposes) and the joint network editing options are not applicable.

Edit Joint Network

The Edit Joint Network option allows you to change the properties of an existing joint network. For example, you could change the joint spacing, statistical parameters, joint model etc. To use this option:

  1. Select Edit Joint Network from the Joint Networks submenu of the Boundaries menu.
  2. Use the mouse to click on any joint boundary in the network. All boundaries in the network will be highlighted. Note:
    • If your model uses multiple joint networks, you may only select one joint network at a time.
    • If the joint network has been assigned to multiple regions of the model, all joints in all regions will be selected, if they belong to the same network.
  3. Press Enter or right-click and select Done Selection, and you will see the Joint Network dialog, with the current network properties displayed.
  4. In the Joint Network dialog, you can modify any parameter of the network, in exactly the same manner as when you originally created the joint network. Note:
    • You can re-generate the joint network, without necessarily changing any of the input parameters, by selecting the Randomize button.
    • If the joint network does not get updated as you change parameters, make sure that the Update Preview check box is selected, at the bottom of the dialog.
    • See the Add Joint Network topic for details about the different joint network models and parameters.
  5. When you are finished editing the properties, select [OK] to update the joint network and close the dialog.

Right-Click Shortcut

The Edit Joint Network option can also be accessed using a right-click shortcut:

  1. Right-click the mouse on any joint boundary in the network.
  2. Select Edit Joint Network from the popup menu.
  3. The Joint Network dialog will appear and you can edit the network properties as described above.
