Add Dynamic Load

Dynamic (time-dependent) loading on boundaries can be defined in terms of displacement, force, velocity or acceleration versus time. Before you can add a dynamic load to a RS2 model, you must first define the load(s). See the Define Dynamic Loads topic for details.

To add a dynamic load to a model:

  1. Select the Dynamic Dynamic workflow tab workflow tab.
  2. Select the Add Dynamic Load Add Dynamic Load icon option from the toolbar or the Dynamic menu. You will see the Add Dynamic Load dialog.
  3. NOTE: if you have not yet defined any dynamic loads, you will first see the Edit Dynamic Loads dialog which allows you to define a dynamic load.

  4. Select a Load Function (i.e. a dynamic load that you have already defined in the Edit Dynamic Loads dialog). Note
    1. Loads may be defined as Line Force, Distributed Force, Displacement, Velocity or Acceleration functions
    2. If the load is a Displacement function, you can select the Apply Transmit BC check box.
  5. Staging - you can choose the Install stage, and (optional) Remove Stage for the dynamic load function.
  6. select OK in the Add Dynamic Load dialog. You will be prompted to select the boundary segments, vertices or nodes on which to apply the load function, according to the current Selection Mode. Note: The Selection Mode (boundary segments, vertices or nodes) can be chosen from the right-click menu or the Dynamic menu.
  7. When the desired boundary segments, vertices or nodes have been selected, right-click and select Done Selection or press Enter. The load function will be applied to the selected boundaries, vertices or nodes as indicated by the display of orange arrows applied in the direction defined by the load function.

Display of Dynamic Loads

Dynamic loads are displayed as orange arrows applied in the direction defined by the load function, and they are only displayed if:

  • The Dynamic workflow tab is selected.
  • The dynamic load is applied at the stage currently being viewed.
