Statistical Plotting Options

Various plotting options are available for Histogram, Cumulative and Scatter plots. Options can be selected either initially from the plotting dialog, or at any time from the Statistics menu or the right-click menu on a plot.

Show Input Distribution

This option applies to Histogram plots of input variables. If selected, the histogram will display the input distribution on top of the histogram plot. This option is useful for comparison of how closely the results of simulation match your input distribution. If the theoretical input distribution aligns with the tops of the histogram bars, this indicates adequate sampling.

Show Fitted Distribution

This option applies to Histogram plots of calculated variables. If selected, the histogram will display a best-fit distribution on top of the histogram plot. RocSupport attempts to find a distribution type that closely matches the distribution of the calculated variable. This best-fit analysis can never be exact – it is only an approximation.

Attach Markers

With this option selected, the input or fitted distribution curves displayed on the Histogram plot will have dot markers attached at the centers of the bins. For a Cumulative plot, these dots are attached to the S-curve at each bin.

Show Failed

This option applies to Histogram and Scatter plots. On Histograms, the proportion of failed samples to the total samples in each bin will be displayed. Failed samples are those with corresponding factor of safety below 1. The histogram bar is split into two parts. The lower part (red color) represents the proportion of failed samples, and the upper part (blue color) represents samples for which the factor of safety is greater than or equal to 1. For example, if there are 25% of samples for which the factor of safety is below 1 in a particular bin, one fourth of that bin will be colored in red.

For the Factor of Safety histogram, the Show Failed option is always selected by default. All bins with values less than 1 are colored red, and all bins greater than or equal to 1 are colored blue.

On Scatter Plots, the Show Failed option will display all failed sample points in red.

Show Regression Line

This option is only applicable for Scatter Plots, and will display the best fit linear regression line for the Scatter Plot data. The correlation coefficient and best fit parameters (alpha and beta) will also be displayed on the plot.
