Adding a Barrier

There are two ways to model a barrier in RocFall:

  • Specify the barrier endpoints.
  • Specify barrier location on the slope, barrier height, and barrier angle

In both cases, after the barrier has been modelled, the Define Barrier dialog appears, in which you'll select the barrier you want to use. You can also use the dialog to edit the height and inclination of the barrier as well as enable a Sensitivity analysis.

Specifying Barrier Endpoints

  1. Select Add Barrier Add barrier icon on the toolbar or the Barriers menu.
A green crosshair appears on the slope. You use this to select the location where the barrier will be attached to the slope. As you move the mouse, notice that the green crosshair moves to the closest point on the slope.
  2. Use the mouse or enter coordinates to specify the location of the first barrier vertex.
Note that, if you enter coordinates that are not on the slope, the vertex is placed at the specified horizontal location and the y coordinate is modified so that the point is on the slope.
  3. Select the location of the second endpoint of the barrier, either with the mouse or by entering coordinates.

TIP: Snapping may be useful here. To ensure a vertical barrier, use Ortho Snap.

Defining Barrier Height and Angle

  1. Select Add Barrier Add Barrier icon on the toolbar or the Barriers menu.
  2. Specify the location of the first point, using the method outlined in Step 2 above.
  3. Enter the barrier height.
  4. Enter the barrier angle (counterclockwise from horizontal) in degrees.
Note that you can also enter the second point graphically.
A slope vertex is inserted at the point where the barrier meets the slope if a vertex is not already there.
