Apply Filters

Multiple view windows of any type (with the exception of the Grid Data View) can be opened from a single document. The filters applied to each view act independent of one another. This is to say that you could have the Grid Data view, two Stereonet Plot Views, and a Chart View opened and apply a different filter to each of them. This capability makes it increasingly easy to visualize and compare subsets of the main data in Dips.

Grid Data view

Toggling between Unfiltered and filtered data in the Grid Data view is a convenient way to quickly visualize subsets of data selected. Each time the filter is toggled in the Grid Data view, the rows (i.e., pole entries) which meet the current filter criteria are highlighted. A note is displayed in the Sidebar as a reminder.

NOTE: Each time changes are made to the data in the Grid Data view, the filters are re-queried. Any filters for which no data exists, are removed from the list of filters. This ensures that any changes made to the main data is reflected in the subsets of filtered data. Any open views are recomputed with the re-queried subset of data and updated. Any open views using a deleted filter will be reset to Unfiltered data and updated.

Stereonet Plot View, 3D Stereonet, and Charts

When creating a Dips Stereonet Plot View, 3D Stereonet, or Chart from an open, active view, the new view generated will automatically apply the last filter used. Now, in the new active view window, you can toggle between the filters as needed. Any analysis and/or data processing is dynamically applied to the filtered subset of data.

STEREONET

The plotted Poles, Contours, Intersections, Mean Set Planes, Grid Data Planes, Global Mean, and Global Best Fit are recomputed based on the filtered subset of poles. Likewise, Terzaghi Weighting, Kinematic Analysis, Spacing Analysis, and Fold Analysis are also recomputed based on the filtered subset of poles. The Legend is then updated to show the filtered results.

CHARTS

The chart data are recomputed based on the filtered subset of poles.
