Add Geotextile

The Add Geotextile option is used to add planar 2-dimensional geotextile support elements to a model. Geotextiles are added as quadrilateral planar support elements as described below.

Before you can add geotextile support, two conditions must be satisfied:
  • You must first define at least one geotextile support type in the Define Support dialog, before you can Add Geotextile. If no geotextile support types have been defined then the Add Geotextile option will be disabled.
  • Geotextile support can only be added to planar surface geometry. Therefore your model must have a planar geometric surface defined for each layer of geotextile support that you wish to add. If these surfaces do not exist, then you will have to add them (e.g. with the Add Plane option) and then you can add the geotextiles to the surface(s).

Once the above conditions are met, geotextile support can be added as follows:

  1. Select the Loading & Support Loading and Support Tab workflow tab.
  2. If necessary use the Visibility settings in the sidebar to hide the geometry volume(s) above the surface on which you will be adding the geotextile so that the planar surface can be selected.
  3. Select Faces Selection Front Face Box Icon as the Selection Mode.
  4. Select a planar surface on which to add the geotextile support.
  5. Select Add Geotextile Add Geotextile Icon from the toolbar or the Support menu.
  6. You will see the Add Geotextile dialog. In the dialog:
    • Select the Support Type property you wish to assign to the geotextile.
    • Enter four points defining the corners of the geotextile. You can do this graphically with the mouse by clicking on the selected surface, or entering XYZ coordinates in the edit boxes.
    • A geotextile support element is a general planar quadrilateral defined by four points; it does not have to be a rectangle.
    • Select the Anchored condition for each edge of the geotextile. Typically the slope face edge will be Anchored and the other three edges will be free (Anchored checkbox turned off). The Anchored checkbox determines whether the pullout or stripping failure modes can occur along that edge.
  7. Select the Preview Geotextile button to preview the geotextile you have defined. If the location or Anchor conditions are incorrect, edit the coordinates as required.
  8. When the Preview is correct select the Add button to add the geotextile to the model.
  9. Select OK to save the settings and exit the dialog.
  10. To add additional geotextiles repeat steps 2 to 9 as necessary.
