RSLog allows customizing and adjusting of default settings to apply to active projects.

To access this page:

Go to the left-hand navigation menu and select Tools > Settings.

The page should appear as follows:

Tools Settings Page Data Entry Tab
Tools: Settings Page - Data Entry Tab

There are 4 different options users can adjust the settings for:

  • Data Entry
  • Rock Classification
  • Reports
  • Theme

Data Entry

On the Data Entry tab, you can change the default settings that are automatically loaded on data entry pages (i.e., Projects, Test Holes). These data entry settings include:

FOR NEW PROJECTS

  • Unit System
  • Coordinate System
  • Site UTM Zone

FOR NEW TEST HOLES

  • Sample Type
  • Field Test Type
  • Drill Method

SPT REFUSAL

  • Refusal Number

SAMPLE DATA (field lets you import projects or templates if you accidentally deleted them from your account)

  • Import Example Projects
  • Import Example Log Templates

To adjust the default Data Entry settings:

  1. Go to the left-hand navigation menu and select Tools > Settings > Data Entry.
  2. Change the desired settings for any of the fields listed above.

Rock Classification

The Rock Classification tab is used to edit the default classification systems used in RSLog.

Note: any changes in definitions will affect the boring logs for previous and future projects.

These Rock Classification definitions are sorted into the following categories:

  • Slaking - the process in which earth materials disintegrate and crumble when exposed to moisture.
  • Weathering - the physical (and sometimes chemical) decomposition of a rock due to exposure.
  • Alteration - any change in the mineralogic composition of a rock brought about by physical or chemical means.
  • Strength - Strength classification is based on the Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) of core specimens. When assessing strength, the geologist/engineer should be aware that you are estimating the intact strength (a sample of rock breaking along a defect provides an invalid strength estimate and the strength should be reassessed).
  • Defects - defects are divided into several categories including: Type, Surface Shape, Roughness, Infill Type, Infill Thickness, and Infill Character.

To add/edit a default rock classification definition:

  1. Go to the left-hand navigation menu and select Tools > Settings > Data Entry.
  2. Select the corresponding tabs for each classification system (Slaking, Weathering, Alteration, Strength, Defects) and adjust the default settings accordingly:
    1. Click + New ______
    2. Enter the Symbol, Term, and Description once the dialog is prompted
  3. If you want to ‘reset to default’, click the corresponding button.
  4. Click Save to keep any changes made for all tabs.

  • Default Log Template
  • Default Figure Report
  • Font Style - Font and Size
  • Borehole Logs - Sample Type Symbols and Symbol Hatch Colours
  • Margins
  • Page Settings - default paper size and orientation used for the design of new templates
