Excel Import
RSLog has Excel templates that are designed for data entry consistent with its data structure. These Excel templates include one file for project and one file for test hole, and they may be downloaded from the download link located on the Import page.
Data entry in several cells in RSLog Excel templates use pre-defined lists (e.g. sample types, drilling methods, etc). These lists could be customized in the Settings worksheet in the test hole Excel template. However, it is critical that the items in these lists are exactly identical with those defined in your RSLog account. To minimize errors, always make changes to the lists in the Settings page of your RSLog account, then go to the Import page and download the Excel templates; At the time of download, your most up-to-date lists will be written in the Settings worksheet of the Excel files.
If you prefer data entry using a spreadsheet format, or if you don't have internet connection during data entry (e.g. staying on a remote project site), you may take the following steps:
- Go to the Import page and download latest RSLog Excel templates.
- Copy the project Excel template and save it under a different filename.
- For each test hole, copy the test hole Excel template and save it under a different filename.
- Complete the data entry in Excel templates.
- Once data entry is completed, login to your RSLog account and go to Import page.
- Click on the arrow next to the Microsoft Excel Templates to start uploading the files.
- After uploading all files, a new project will be created in your RSLog account and you will be automatically directed to the Test Holes page.
To access this page:
Go to the left-hand navigation menu and select Data Entry > Import, then click on the Import Data link under the Microsoft Excel Files.
The page should appear as follows:
Start by uploading the project Excel file. Then follow by uploading the test hole Excel file(s). Please note on the file browse dialog you can select multiple files:
- by holding Ctrl button and clicking on each file
- by clicking on the first file in the list, holding Shift button and clicking on the last file.
Once the files are uploaded, click on Import Data button. This will start processing each Excel file and if any data entry error is encountered during processing, an error message will be shown. If all files include valid data, a new project will be created in your RSLog account and you will be redirected to the Test Holes page.
Export from Datanest App: If you use Datanest app for data collection, you can automatically generate Excel files compatible with RSLog. Then login to your RSLog account and go to Import page to upload your Excel files. A new project will be created in your RSLog account and you will be automatically directed to the Test Holes page. Now that your data is transferred to RSLog, you can take advantage of all design and reporting features offered by RSLog.
