Section Export for RS2
The RS2 Section Creator feature allows you to capture any 2D section of a RS3 model, and generate a RS2 file from the section. This allows you to easily perform a 2D analysis on any 2D section of a RS3 model. Most of the material properties and material assignments will be preserved from the 3D model. However, there are few exceptions:
List of items NOT exported from RS3 to RS2:
Materials:
- User defined materials
- Snowden gen. anisotropic strength functions
- Generalized anisotropic strength
- NorSand strength
- Datum dependency
- Hydraulic user defined models
- Hydraulic parameters (permeability)
Supports:
- Piles/beams/structural
- Composite liners with more than 4 liners*
- Composite liners with more than 1 joint*
Model:
- Mesh*
- Boundary conditions (GW and dynamic)
- Restraints
- Loads/dynamic loads
- Support placements
Section Creation
- Select the Geology workflow tab
- Select the RS2 Section Creator option from the toolbar or Geometry > Sectioning Tools sub-menu
- Select the icons in the top left corner of the dialog to add either a Single Section () or a Multi-Section ().
- For a single section, you can specify a section plane at any location or angle by entering values for the U and V coordinates, and the Strike angle.
- For the Multi-Section group, you can draw a polyline on the Plan View and select different section generation methods to create sections along the polyline Methods include:
- Create by total number of sections
- Create at each vertex
- Create on each segment
- Select OK to accept and close the RS2 Section Creator. All the sections you defined will be added into the model.
RS2 Export
The RS2 Export can be used to export sections as RS2 Multi-Group files. The exported RS2 file can be opened and further edited using RS2 and perform 2D FEM analysis.
After creating the desired sections for analysis:
- Select Section to be opened in RS2 Modeler from the toolbar.
- Select sections that you would like to export in the Select Sections to Export dialog.
- The exported RS2 file will be opened by RS2 automatically. (RS2 needs to be installed.)
Features exported include:
- Geometry
- Material properties
- Support properties
- Water table, piezo lines
- Loads
Features not exported include:
- Bolts
- Seismic loading
