Unwedge 3.0Features

Graphical Output

Unwedge provides full 3-dimensional visualization of the underground excavation and wedge model using advanced shading and transparency algorithms. For more information about the many viewing and display options available in Unwedge, see the Unwedge Viewing Options page.

Screen captures for 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional views can easily be generated in a variety of formats including BMP, JPG and DXF. The images can then be included in reports and presentations.

Graphical Output: Exporting Images

Screen captures (images) can be created by saving directly to a file (Export Image File option) or by using the Copy option to copy the screen to the clipboard. The Export Image File option allows you to save the current view directly to either a .JPG or .BMP file.

Export Image option.

The Copy option will copy the current view to the Windows clipboard. It can then be pasted directly into reports or other applications for editing / saving. For chart views (i.e. Tunnel Axis Plot), the Copy option can be configured to copy the chart in one of 3 formats: .BMP, Metafile (.WMF) or Enhanced Metafile (.EMF).

Copy option.

Graphical Output: Export DXF

The Unwedge model can also be exported as a DXF file. This includes the excavation, wedges and support (e.g. bolts). The DXF file can be either 2D or 3D, depending on the current view.

  • For 2-dimensional views (e.g. Opening Section, Support Design,
Stereonet), the Export 2D DXF option will save the 2D coordinates
of all entities in the view.
  • For 3-dimensional views (e.g. 3D Wedge view, perspective view),
the Export 3D DXF option will save the 3-dimensional coordinates
of all entities in the view.

    Export DXF option.

The Export DXF option can be used to export an Unwedge model into AutoCAD. It can also be used to export an Unwedge model (Opening Section and Support) to the program Phase2 (finite element analysis and support design for excavations), also available from Rocscience.

    Graphical Output: Grayscale

The Grayscale option will convert all colours to shades of gray with a single mouse click. This can be useful for black and white screen captures or sending images to a black and white printer.

    Graphical Output: Printer Page Setup

For printing, Unwedge has a Page Setup option available directly in the program, which allows you to setup page margins and other printing options. A particularly useful feature is the ability to automatically include the wedge analysis information, along with printouts of the model.
