Calculations: Units

The Units option in the View menu allows the user to choose either METRIC or IMPERIAL units for the analysis.

Units option under View menu

The Units dialog

Calculations: Angular Velocity

Angular Velocity option allows the user to consider the angular velocity of the rocks in a RocFall simulation. Only translational velocity is used, if this option is de-selected.

Angular velocity checkbox in the Project Setting dialog

Angular Velocity is only enabled if the Consider angular velocity of the rocks checkbox is selected in the Project Settings dialog

Calculations: Friction Angle Calculation from Rt

In the Project Settings dialog, the user has the option of calculating the friction angle of a material from the coefficient of tangential restitution (Rt). If Calculate friction angle from Rt is selected, the equation used is: Phi = arctan [ ( 1 - RT ) / RT ]

Calculations: Coefficient of normal restitution scaling

The normal scaling factor adjusts for the decrease in normal coefficient of restitution as the impact velocity increases. This factor represents a transition from nearly elastic conditions at low velocities to highly inelastic conditions caused by increased fracturing of the rock and cratering of the slope surface at higher impact velocities. You may also scale Rn according to rock mass; however, it is not recommended that you scale according to both velocity and mass at the same time.
